Waria Valley Community Conservation and Sustainable Livelihoods Programme
Based along the Huon coast and Waria Valley of Papua New Guinea.
The objectives of the programme include: biodiversity assessment of the forest resources, implementation of community vegetation nurseries for restoration work and rehabilitation of degraded areas, as well as initiation of alternative livelihood schemes (including small-scale forestry and eco-tourism), environmental education in schools in the Waria Valley, and training and local capacity building projects within target communities.
Location of the project.
SSF Australia role is purely advisory, providing scientific knowledge and experience when required.
The project is run by Coral Cay Conservation Ltd , Huon District’s Morobe Bris Kanda Association, PNG Forest Research Institute, Village Development Trust, PNG University of Technology’s Forestry Department and PNG Department of Environment and Conservation.
SSF Australia is in the preliminary stages of assisting the Waria Valley community with their Livelihoods project as well as Water and Sanitation projects. Please refer to this web page regularly for updates.
